The Crystalline Glazes
The crystals are formed by the interaction of several minerals with silica (the glass former) and zinc (the flux). Crystal development occurs during the cooling cycle, with a wide variety of shapes and sizes.
Colour is derived from the addition of various metal oxides – iron oxide, copper oxide, cobalt oxide manganese dioxide.
The pots come in a range of colours, Blue, Green, White, Pink, Gold, Nickle and combinations of two colours.
The crystals are part of the special effects range of glazes these are very high end in both their beauty and their difficulty in repetition.
The variation in crystal formation can be quiet extreme, from a pot almost totally covered in crystals to one with sparse crystals.
EVERY POTS IS DIFFERANT
he Japanese concept of “Wabi-sabi” is that which embraces the beauty of imperfection. “like apples on a tree all the same but all different”.
This is the essence of the Crystaline pots.
It's an aesthetic that finds value in the natural cycle of growth, decay, and renewal, finding beauty in things that are flawed, modest, and simple. Essentially, it's about appreciating the unique character that comes with age, wear, and the passage of time.
The pots are hand thrown on the potter’s wheel using high quality Australian Clay by renowned Queensland Potter Peter Wallace known for his superb forms and outstanding glazes who has been potting since 1972.
We stock 2 different filters:
Recommended for removal of chlorine alumina and bacteria and micro plastics. Generally used on tank or town water without fluoride.
Recommended for the removal of everything the Doulton Super Sterasyl filter plus removes fluoride generally used on town water supply.
Please note that this is a handmade item, and subject to variation. Each creation is unique, like you.
- Height: approx. 500 to 550 mm
- Width: approx. 240 to 260 mm
- Volume: approx. 12 to 15 litres
- Filtered water: approx. 5 to 6 litres of water available at any time
- The glaze on the inside of the pots contains NO colouring oxides and is a simple Felspar silica glaze.
- NO LEAD is used in these at high temperature glazes
- All sizes are approximate as they are handmade
